District 16 STaC Games
During the week of May 17th - 23rd, Sectional Tournament at Clubs (STaC) games are held at the Beth Israel and at NW Center open games. The strats are 1000+, 300 - 1000, and 0 - 300. Silver points are awarded at the club and district levels. The results of these games are emailed to District 16, and district-level winners are determined. It is as if a district-wide sectional tournament was being held each day (afternoon and evening), with appropriate (i.e. extra) masterpoints awarded. The district-level results can be viewed on the web within a few days of each game. These games cost $1 extra.
The every-other-year Austin Regional is traditionally held over the Fourth of July. The dates this year are June 29th (Tuesday night) through July 5th (Monday). These events are sponsored and managed by Unit 207, specifically the Unit Board and its appointed tournament chairmen. A number of committees are formed to deal with the various aspects of running a regional tournament. (A typical job is manning a booth for an hour.) You may be asked by one the chairmen to help by donating some of your time during the regional. A successful tournament cannot be run without a lot of help from a lot of people. Please say yes if asked to help. Better yet, volunteer before being asked. Daily worker lunches will be offered free in the hospitality suite to those volunteers working on a given day.

Lone Arranger Rides Again!
Periodically, the unit holds a special unit tournament at which each player shows up without a partner, and the director divides the field in half based upon masterpoints. Each player in the lower half draws a partner from amongst those in the upper half. A few minutes are given for the newly formed partnership to fill out a convention card, and then the game begins. Usually, upper half players are at least Life Masters. The Lone Arranger (sans Tonto) rides again on April 10th (Sat) at the NW Center at 12:30.
Deaths and Departures
Joan Adair of Austin, Silver Life Master
Margery Shimmon of Lakeway, Life Master
A fond farewell to Billie Coopwood and Jim Hamilton. They have moved to New York City (despite the fact that it is full of Yankees!). Jim was the editor of Austin Regional newsletters for many years (and other Texas regionals as well). Of much greater importance, Billie was an outstanding cook whose dishes graced many a Saturday night team game (and other Unit 207 events).
