NAP District 16 Final
If you played in the Unit 207 NAP final and earned a "Q" (qualified), then you may play at the district-level in January 2005 at the San Antonio Sectional Tournament. The dates/times are 15/16 January (Sat/Sun) at 1:00 and 7:00. The event is flighted (not stratified). About half of the field in each flight is eliminated after the second Saturday session. The top three (sometimes four) places in each flight advance to the national level held at the Spring Nationals in March 2005.
Grand National Teams (GNT)
The unit-level GNT qualifier for flights B and C will be held on Saturday, February 19th. It is a two-session event with a meal between sessions. The upper half of each flight qualifies to go the district-level (usually held in Richardson (Dallas) over the Memorial Day weekend). The national-level is at the Summer Nationals. Must play both sessions.
Party! Party! Party!
Various Christmas parties are being held in December. The Unit 207 party is December 12th (Sunday) at the Senior Activity Center. There is NO age restriction. There will be two single-session, charity, stratified pairs games with a catered meal between sessions. The cost is $12 if playing both sessions, $8 if playing only one session. Reservations are required. Reserve your place with Unit President Mary Anne Laier (828-5013). The Senior Activity Center party is Tuesday, December 7th. Must be 50+ years of age. Dinner at 6:00 and bridge at 7:00 (charity, stratified pairs). The cost is $6 if you bring a dish, $9 without a dish. Reservations are not required, but please sign up at the SAC indicating the kind of dish you will bring the Northwest Center 0-600 game will have a party/club championship on Thursday, December 16th at 11:30.
Reviewing/Asking Questions About the Auction
The declarer may ask for a review of the bidding prior to playing from the dummy to the opening lead. The opening leader may ask before he makes the opening lead. Opening leader's partner may ask at his first turn to play (not before the opening lead is made). After these times, it is too late to ask for a review. One may, however, ask what a specific bid means at any time during the play when it is your turn to play a card. The declarer may ask during the play about defenders' carding/discarding agreements. It is unethical to ask for a review for the purpose of calling your partner's attention thereto.
Bids at/above the Four-Level
Beginning with opener's first rebid, bids at/above the four-level are not to be alerted. After the auction is over (and before the opening lead), the opponents should be informed, even if they do not ask, what any such conventional bids mean. Opening four-level bids and responder's first response (if at/above the four-level) are alertable. Even though bids at/above the four-level are not to be alerted, the opponents still have the right to ask what any such bids mean. If they do ask, they are to be told the meanings. Remember, that one may ask what a bid means only at your turn to bid. It is unethical to ask what a bid means for the purpose of calling your partner's attention to the bid.
